BLU DETIGER
A buzzworthy rising star in the world of bass playing and recently named “the coolest DJ around” by Vogue Magazine, New York City native Blu DeTiger also happens to be an accomplished and visionary producer, singer and songwriter—her music is a mix of her various influences, including Jungle, Jamie XX, Blondie and Prince. Though she's been playing bass and gigging since she was 7, the road to success hasn't always been easy. “I’ve had to really prove myself as a female instrumentalist,” Blu confesses. But she instantly wins over doubters and sets her self apart by playing live bass on-the-fly during her DJ sets.
Born to artistic parents, Blu spent parts of her childhood in Ibiza and her first concert was a Rolling Stones tribute show at the iconic CBGB. Messing around on her parents' old Technics turntables helped spark her youthful interest in DJing and in the fine details of music-making. Taking that early childhood passion to the next level, Blu currently studies songwriting, production and music business at NYU. She is mentored by the best bass players and musicians in the world, including Jerry Barnes (Nile Rodgers and Chic) and Steven Wolf (Alicia Keys, P!NK).
A true New York fashionista and scene-ster, Blu's long flowing blond locks are hard to miss, and you can spot her walking around New York, lugging around her signature royal-blue-sparkly bass. She's already caught the eye of various publications and fashion brands such as Vogue, Huffington Post, and Refinery29. Inspired by her musical heroes like Bernard Edwards, Marcus Miller, and Meshell Ndegeocello, Blu is currently writing and producing her debut solo project of funk inspired alternative dance pop and she's also launching her funky pop duo project BITS. A shooting star and a true original, there’s no stopping Blu’s ability to sparkle.
